Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another service may receive it. By continuing to browse Wilcox County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated on this page.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained so the message can be answered. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server may automatically receive basic technical and usage details:

  • Page-view times and the pages viewed
  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Time spent on visited pages
  • The referring site, when one is supplied

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show, in aggregate, which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers assist with that measurement. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
  • Operating the site and maintaining page performance
  • Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
  • Measuring which resources visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Wilcox County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material identifies official routes such as the Wilcox County Sheriff, the Circuit Clerk, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the Alabama Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, Alabama agency resources, legal-aid organizations, or outside search services. After leaving this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may track activity across websites to select ads. That processing takes place through their systems.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may still be disclosed to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Outside search providers that receive a submitted query
  • Advertising networks that serve ads on these pages
  • Government or law enforcement bodies when valid legal process compels disclosure

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet system can guarantee complete security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be submitted.

Your Data Rights

Applicable law may provide additional data rights. Alabama's Open Records Act, including Ala. Code §36-12-40, governs access to public government writings, while Ala. Code §41-9-601 restricts false-pretense access to and unauthorized communication of criminal-history information. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Ask for access to personal data held about you
  • Seek deletion of eligible data
  • Object to certain processing where the law permits

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. A new version will be posted here with an updated effective date, so visitors should review the page from time to time.
